App Design · UX/UI · Mobile
An app that helps volunteers easily find trusted, local volunteering opportunities — designed end-to-end as the sole UX designer, from research through hi-fi prototype.
Overview
Many people want to give back to their community or build new skills, but they often struggle to find a trusted and convenient way to get started. There is a lack of reliable platforms connecting individuals to meaningful local opportunities that align with their interests and availability.
The Kind Connect app solves this by making it easy to discover and sign up for nearby volunteer opportunities that match your passions and fit your schedule — all in a few simple steps.
As the sole UX designer on this project, I owned the entire design process: conducting user interviews, synthesising research, creating wireframes (paper and digital), building lo-fi and hi-fi prototypes in Figma, conducting usability testing, and iterating based on findings.
Responsibilities
Research
I conducted 4 in-depth interviews to understand people's motivations, frustrations, and decision-making processes around volunteering. I wanted to learn what was genuinely stopping people from getting involved.
Have you ever volunteered before? If so, how did you find that opportunity?
What motivates you to volunteer your time?
What challenges or frustrations have you faced when trying to find or commit to volunteer opportunities?
How do you usually decide which volunteer opportunities to pursue?
What features or information would make it easier for you to choose and sign up for a volunteer opportunity?

Key Insights
01
Learning & Upskilling
People want to know what skills they'll gain. Providing clear details about skill development opportunities for each role increases motivation to apply.
02
Scheduling
Volunteers want to plan around their lives. Clearly displaying event dates and times upfront reduces drop-off and improves commitment rates.
03
Credibility & Trust
People need to trust the platform and the organisations. Verified partners, clear contact information, and location details all build confidence.
Status
The complete case study — including lo-fi wireframes, hi-fi prototype screens, usability testing findings, and accessibility annotations — is currently being documented and will be published here shortly.
